Sound won't stop automatic advance on time

I am making a "hands off" presentation, with portions of .wav files on each
slide. For some reason, some won't "end" (in the middle of the music clip)
when the Custom Animations end and the slide should advance.

The only thing noticeably different about the two slides causing this
problem is that I told the sound clips to start "X" number of seconds into
the clip. Is this really a problem?

Must I find a sound editor and shorten the clips? Is there something else I
can do (short of a mouse click during the presentation - this must be hands
off) to FORCE the slide to advance and the music to stop?

Editing is free and easy. Download either Audacity or GoldWave and install it.
Open your WAV in the software and highlight the area of the sound stream you
DON'T want. Press the delete key and save the file to a new name. Done!
