Sounds that stop & volume levels!

I am making a presentation where I want it to start by playing a specific
track from a CD. I really want the slides to continue to play until the
third slide appears and then fade out.

I have no trouble in getting the music to start but as soon as I click the
mouse for the next text to arrive on the screen, the music stops. I have 3
questions:

Is there a way I can get the track to continue playing?
Would it be possible to fade it out when I reach a specific slide rather
than just suddenly stopping?
Is it possible to preset the volume level?

To alter the volume level and add a fade, you need to rip the track to a file on
your hard drive and then edit the file in an audio editor. PowerPoint just
plays whatever you feed it.
