Source Code Control

At what level would you need to start using SourceSafe or an equivalent?
What benifits does it offer? (I don't have a good understanding of what it
actually is either, I'm learning here!)

I've never needed it with well organized projects with up to 6 programmers,
but each object's ownership was well defined and the project manager created
all the tables and fields, as well as organized individual responsibility.
It is important that you have a skilled project manager to do this or you
will fall all over yourselves.

I completely disagree.

I think that sourceSafe is the most important thing in the world.

and project managers? They're about as worthless as spreadsheet dorks.
I'd move to SQL Server if you've got that many users or developers.

Thanks

Your prerogative to disagree, but I don't see how you can disagree with
already completed successful projects.

I was under the impression that you thought that SQL-Server was the most
important thing in the world. Which is it? SourceSafe, or SQL-Server?

BTW, if project managers are worthless, how come nearly every project with
over 2 or 3 people uses one, and there are college degrees in project
management? You might want to think about that a bit.

I'm not sure what you mean by "spreadsheet dorks" but since spreadsheets are
used by every financial analyst in the world, I'm pretty sure that there
would be massive disagreement there, as well.

It seems to me that you have authority issues. You may want to get some
professional help for that.

there is no such thing as 'financial analysts'. Spreadsheet is a
heroin worse than MDB.

there are 'people who are technical enough' and 'people who are not
technical enough'.

which are you?

how come every project needs them?

probably because you can't drive a project by yourself.. that is what
I would assume.

I just think that project managers and financial analysts are complete
and utter dead weight. Honestly-- they don't make the project move
faster.

If you want the project to move faster-- than hire better coders.

Sorry-- I just don't agree with the typical sdlc hogwash.
