SP2 Update

R

Randy Lowenberg

I just downloaded that mega Office SP2 Update yesterday, and when I go to
"Review your update history" it says it failed. It then says "If an update
failed to install, click the Failed icon to learn how to solve the problem".
I clicked on the icon and nothing happens. What can I do??????????

Hi Randy,

I'm having the same problem. After seeing it had failed after the long
download I then downloaded the actual file and installed by hand. This time I
saw the problem.

A dialog appeared telling me it couldn't find the expected verson of the
product on my system.

Regards,

Tim.

Try going to you Office apps and to the Help menus and "About...." option.
Does it say SP2 anywhere there?

Also, go to Add/Remove programs, do you have Office Web Components installed?
At what version?

Hi Goose,

My Help | About says SP1 which is why i'm trying to update to SP2.

I searched the microsoft support pages before I posted on this forum. I saw
the support page with regards to the web components and problems installing
service packs for Office.

I've checked my add/remove programs and I only have Office XP installed, no
Office Web Components are installed that I can see.

Regards,

TIM

Wow, hold the phone phage, I think you mentioned you only have OfficeXP
installed, if that's the case this thread was about installing SP2 for Office
2003. Please verify whether it's a typo.
If you're Office version is XP the latest Service Pack is SP3. Try
downloading it manually (Fullfile version) and let me know what if any errors
you get.

Goose:

I checked my "About" version on each application, Excel, Word, Outlook
Express and Power Point and they each say SP2 in them, but when I review my
update history it says it failed to install and when I click on the failed
icon it will not tell me what went wrong. Should I just assume it worked? I
was trying to update my Student and Teachers edition.

Hi Goose,

Whoops. It been one of those long days :) Yes, I was supposed to say Office
2003.

Tim.

So the manual installation indicated you had the wrong version installed? Do
you have the exact error message?
Also, please go to Start->Run and in the text box type %temp%\Ohotfix, zip
up all the files in there and you can email them to me so I can have a look.

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
