Space appear as dots in Outlook 2003 Messages

Everytime I press space bar a dot appears. This is not corrected by turning
off the formatting paragraph toggle button or by ctrl+shft+8. Can anyone tell
me how to turn stop the dot appearing as it makes it very difficult to
punctuate with this appearing. Many thanks

This is in Word, correct? Click Tools>Options. On the View tab, what do you
see checked in the "Formatting Marks" section in the middle?
