G'Day Gary,
What you did "wrong" was to post a "Microsoft Word" question
in the "Microsoft Access" news group.
NOW - Word has a feature that concerns characters that do not print.
These characters include SPACEs, TABs and PARAGRAPH markers.
It is sometimes useful to make these "visible" on the screen - which is
what you have done:
SPACE shows as ?
TAB shows as ?
PARAGRAPH shows as ¶
Have a look at the Standard Toolbar and you will see a button with
"¶" on it - just Click this button to turn this feature ON/OFF.
