SPAM emails in Entourage 2004 that I cannot delete, new.

I have been receiving SPAM recently that I cannot delete or move. I can open
them. This is an imap account and I am using Entourage 2004 (11.3.6). As far
as I can see this only applies to some SPAM (I use spamsieve rather than the
built in SPAM filter). I have checked the database integrity and it says
that it is fine. Any idea of what is going on?

One further thing that I have just noticed, I cannot mark them as read,
though if I open them they then appear as unread. This is getting bad.

Sounds like database corruption. Since you ran the verify, I would first try
accessing your mail via the web interface and see if you can delete it
there. If that doesn't help, then do the rebuild. Verify isn't 100%.

Thanks, that seemed to work. I did rebuild the database the first time it
happened but I guess that it got corrupted again. I hope that it doesn't
happen a lot because after a rebuild all the rules that I have that involve
moving emails to different folders all change the destination to the inbox
on my computer (but don't work and the emails seem to just disappear) I have
to go into my rules and change them all.

Also, is there a way with an imap account to make it so that it only checks
for email when I tell it to (apple-k), as it is it checks when I start up
(or click on the inbox folder) which I don't want it to do.

I'm probably very hard on my database because I'm always testing problems
other users have. I can't remember the last time I had to rebuild. It's a
crap shoot on how often this happens. Some users seem to be constantly
plagued by rebuilds. Since everyone's system and use is different, there is
no definitive cause of corruption.

Under Tools in the menu bar, select Schedules. Set your Send & Receive All
schedule to Manually.

That is odd, that is how it is set but it continues to check/receive mail
any time I click on/open my imap inbox folder.

That's Entourage's standard behaviour. Selecting a folder in an IMAP account
makes Entourage automatically check for new email messages, and I don't
think there's a way to change that behaviour.

There must be something fundamentally wrong with my database, because 24
hours after doing a rebuild the same sort of undeletable emails are showing
up.

Create a new Identity and see if the problem goes away. Since it's an IMAP
account it shouldn't be too difficult to start a new Identity. You can copy
over the Rules and Signatures file from your Identity folder.
