Phillip Jones

I encountered 3 pieces of Spam on this server and Forwarded to
abuse@microsoft I'm hoping I sent t right area One was selling a
product. the other appeared to be rantings and ravings from a Lunatic
that needs to institutionalized.

I hope it was okay to Forward to abuse.

The problem is the nature of nntp (the protocol used for newsgroups).
The server is mirrored on other servers throughout the world. Deleting
the spam in the MS servers doesn't delete them from the mirrors so any
one accessing the groups through the mirrors will still be subjected to
spam.

As far as I am concerned, the only real solution is to have a newsgroup
client application with a decent spam filter :-\

While I doubt it does any actual harm, it won't do any good at all -
abuse@... is for reporting email spam from the microsoft.com domain.
Posts on newsservers are different animals altogether. They won't know
what to do with your information.

In fact, reporting to abuse@ at any domain is usually futile, since a
vast amount of email spam is spoofed.

Best course is just to ignore the garbage - it usually gets removed
eventually. If your newsreader has a spam filter, add the sender to the
black list, but don't waste any more time or effort.

Frankly, I think we who connect via microsoft's news server are
remarkably spoiled. Three whole spams? That's about a minute's postings
on most usenet groups.

Yes but gosh I hate spam. If I could get hold just one I would throttle
him until he/she was blue in the face. :)

Because Phillip is a very large gentleman :)

In the past, he has had some "unfortunate side effects" (such as death...)
when he waited too long.

So now he lets them go when they turn blue, so that they may learn the error
of their ways (when they get out of hospital...)

Cheers
