Span heading across columns

Hi,

Is it possible to span a portion of text across two columns without
embedding it in a different section? I'd like to have my first-level
headings print across the columns, so making section breaks for each
heading would be rather cumbersome.

Thanks in advance.

You have not provided much information, as there are several possibilities,
none of which require sections.
You could include a full width frame with your heading style
You could use a page header with full width information
You could format the document as a single column, then select the text
between the headings and format them individually as two columns each.

The problem with this is that it would bring the heading out of the
text flow, so it'll be a mess if I want to go back, or reflow the text
after an insertion.
You could use a page header with full width information

Then, the heading would only appear on top of the page, and still be
independent of the text flow.
You could format the document as a single column, then select the text
between the headings and format them individually as two columns each.

I think this will be the best solution, thanks. Actually, I didn't
know it was possible to apply a column layout to a selection. Note
that this technique does add section breaks at the beginning and the
end of the selection. So, logically, it's still not quite correct (a
heading is not a section per se), but it's more manageable and more
convenient than manually adding section breaks at the right place.
And, more important, it does the trick!

Thanks for your help!
