Spawn is an answer to my prayers :-)

Jim, I installed Spawn and it is great. It is making it possible to do
something that I've wanted to do since I started this web, but didn't
know how.

Is it possible to edit any of the choices in a hyperlink in Normal
mode, e.g. size of box, or do I have to do it in HTML mode?

I'll send a donation as soon as I can get a money order in US funds.

Hi Nancy,

Great!

Yes, you can edit the options in Normal mode. Just select the
image/text/whatever that you use for the link and then start up Spawn. It
will repopulate with all of the settings. Then edit whatever you want and
then click OK.

That's not the way it's working here, with FP2000. When I select the
text and go to Spawn, all of the fields are blank. However, I can
change the size of box, etc. in HTML view, so it isn't a problem.

Did you download Spawn from my Web site? There are a lot of Web sites out
there that distribute old versions of my add-ins. The last few versions of
Spawn have automatically repopulated all the settings. You do have to make
sure that you select all of the text from the original link and no
additional text.

Yes I downloaded it from your website, and I selected all of the
original text. It is version 1.7. It's not a big problem for me--I'm
just so glad that the popups work so well.

Perhaps you need the updated version, which can do what you want. Previous
version only made a new popup window from a new link, you couldn't edit the
existing one.

I have version 1.7, which I downloaded from Jim's site. That seems to
be the latest version. It definitely won't bring up the existing
information when I highlight the text. I'm using FP2000 and Windows95,
so maybe there is a problem with this combination.

I've been noticing another very strange behaviour in FP since I
installed Spawn. It might be a coincidence, but I haven't installed
any other programs. FP used to open with the with last-opened Web, and
it still does most of the time, but once I have opened it a few
different times, FP will open without a Web, and Jimco won't be listed
under Tools. If I reboot, everything is back to normal and my
last-used Web opens. Not a big problem because I reboot almost every
day, but it did cause a bit of anxiety until I figured out how to fix
it.

There is a generic problem w/ many addins in FP
They fail to properly close all instances of FP
So even though you close/exit FP it is still running in background
See Known Issue in
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...l/odc_fpManagedFrontPageAddIns.asp?frame=true

Most addins or built in functions are triggered by the loading of FP
(the open last web is also triggered that way)
Since FP is already loaded, they fail to trigger
- open task manager [Ctrl][Alt][Del] and kill (end) the FP process before reopening FP

It is great to know the reason that something is happening. I read
something like this in another thread yesterday and I was going to
look in Task Manager the next time this happened.

Yes, that was a post that I posted. Spawn does have a bug in it that causes
this from time to time. It will be fixed in the next release.

As for the add-in reloading the previous settings, I'm not sure why you are
seeing that. I use Spawn all the time and have no problems with it and no
one else has reported that. Are you sure you are selecting all of the text
and ONLY the text for the link?

I am as sure as I can be that I am selecting all of the text and only
the text. I'm using Spawn on

http://www.timspartycentre.com/rentals.htm

I highlight a link, e.g. '9" soup', go to Tools, Jimco Add-ins-->Spawn
and I get a box with no fields filled in. I checked several times to
make sure that I'm not including any spaces before or after the
underlined link. I even wondered if the bullet was affecting the
results, but under "Tents" I have just used text in a sentence as a
hyperlink and the same thing happens.

When a problem has never been reported before, I usually assume that I
am doing something wrong, but I can't see where I am departing from
directions here. If anything stands out in my description of my
procedure, please tell me.

There is one other strange thing that I have just noticed since I
installed Spawn. On the page I mentioned above I have used the bullets
from the theme. When anyone views the page, all the bullets are large
red squares, except for the sub-bullets, which are smaller and another
colour. Looking at that page on my home computer, the bullets change
part way down the page to medium-size green squares, and a little
farther down they become small brown squares--the way they would if I
was indenting 3 levels of bullets. When I publish, they appear they
way they should. Weird.

I'll check your site from time to time for a new version of Spawn, but
in the meantime I am very happy with it and it is doing what I want so
I'm not worried about having to work around a couple of things.

I found the problem. For some reason, FrontPage 2000 (and it only happens
in FrontPage 2000) is not giving me the <a> tag that you selected when I get
the active element. The HTML of the selection is correct ("<a href=..."),
but the HTML element it's giving me is the <li> element. That causes my
code to disregard that as an existing pop-up.

This same page works fine in FrontPage 2002 and 2003, so I can only surmise
that this may be a bug in FrontPage 2000.

As far as the bullet thing, Spawn's not going to affect that. Not sure
what's going on there.
