I have several contacts in Italy or France. Can anyone help me figure
ou how I can add accents and other special characters into Microsoft
Office products?

Same way as you'd do in other apps. You can use shortcuts on the
keyboard.
the Keycaps application, which is part of the system, should help you
figure out what you need to type (it depends on the keyboard layout you
are using).
