How do I insert the character for a caret in Word 2000

You mean like above a letter, or by itself?

I assume you want that function automated in some way? Or
would you want to manually insert them when necessary?

- If manually, just type the character ("^") of course.

It's Shift+6 on US keyboards. There may be a different character there in
international layouts.
