I am using WinXP Home, SP2
I just installed the Speech Recognition part of Word 2002.
I installed a Logitech USB microphone.
I can't get Speech Recognition to work.
Under "Tools" there is no check mark or icon next to "Speech". And
nothing happens when I click on it.
Under "Tools" "Language" I do not see "Dictate" or "Commands", which
the Help menu says should be there.
The Microphone is working. I tested it using Control Panel. (Although
I can't now remember just how I did that test!)
The Speech Properties shows Microsoft English ASR Version 5 Engine.
I think the problem is that the "Preferred Audio Device" defaults to
"Microphone" so it is looking at the Sound Blaster microphone Port.,
and I am using a USB microphone, which is what Microsoft recommends.
And I do not see a choice for that in the Speech Properties/Audio drop
down list. I see:
SPDIF-in
CD-digital
MIDI
CD Audio
Line-in
Microphone
Auxiliary
TAD-In
WAV
I tried Auxiliary, with no result.
I am Stumped!
Any and all help gratefully received!
Thank you
