Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I have spent the last four hours trying to fix this problem. I have thrown out my 2004 office, thrown out all the preference files suggested by various forums, thrown out the normal template, checked language etc but the spell and grammar check button is STILL gray under the preference.

Help!!!!

Thanks!!!!

What language is set in the text you are trying to spell-check? If it is
not one that comes with Word 2008, then spelling and grammar will be
disabled.

OK, so work through the suggestions in the link I sent you to: one of the
suggestions there will cure it.

Cheers

It has always been English (U.S.). I have checked this.

The best way to get help is to NOT reply to another post - especially one
more than a month old. Instead, submit a NEW message & state the version &
update levels of your Office & OS X software as well as a detailed
description of exactly what your problem is. This is especially important if
you've attempted the 'tried & true' methods but they have not corrected the
matter. That suggests that there is something unusual about your situation
which we can't very well address if we don't have the details.
