Spell check causes crash in Word 2002

Hello--

Any attempt to spell check a document in Word 2002 causes Word to crash. Word also crashes when I attempt to use the thesaurus tool. Any thoughts, folks?

1.Which language spell-checker?
2. Are you up to date with service packs?

i've got this problem too.
i've given a full description under "word spelling & grammar".
i am completely up to date on service packs.
will attempt to uninstall & reinstall and NOT load any SP's.
eraser2002 is desperately needed !!!

ok, i think i've gotten around it.
i've uninstalled only word (all of it) and proofing tools,
rebooted, reinstalled and DID NOT APPLY SP'S !!!
spellcheck works without lockups AND my task manager
does not show winword running me up to 100% on cpu.
i'll bet ya a nickel i stay away from sp1 and sp2 for sometime.

To answer your questions:
1.) I'm using the English (U.S.) spell checker
2.) Fully up to date on the service packs

I have Microsoft Office SP3 installed.
Spelling & Grammar crash. Then in some time i used Traditional Spanis
Spelling. Even i entered to the language definition in word an
desactivated the automatic detection for this.

But, this resolved the problem partially for some days. But Word i
crashing again. I know the cause is Spelling and Grammar caus
inmediatily i desactivate the function in Word Options, word doesn
crash anymore.

Ive even browse a lot of pages with people with the same problem. Thi
bug must be reported to microsoft but i dont know how
