Spell checker broken

Problem: spell checker (F7) no longer working in runtime version of Access
XP when it is installed on new laptop. New laptop has Office 2007
installed, and the spell checker works ok in Word 2007. New computer is
running Windows XP Professional.

Spell checker has never failed to work in this program, in a variety of
other machine configurations.

Advice appreciated.

As far as I know the runtime can only use the spell checker from the same
version of Office that might be installed.

What Access version are we talking about? I seem to remember reading
somewhere that a lot of the common Office features, such as SpellChecker, are
located in different places under Office 2007, which can cause problems. While
I can't help you directly, I can suggest that you post the version of Access
taht's involved, which may speed up your getting a definitive answer.

Access version is Access XP (2002), as I thought I said clearly in my
original post.

Error message received by user is that the spell checker is not installed.
However, it is working in Word 2007.

Yes and when I install access 97 runtime on a PC with Word 2000 (or newer)
the spell checker won't work in the Access runtime either.

There "might" be some Office versions that are close enough in binary
structure for the Access runtime of one to be able to use the spell checker
of the other, but as a general rule they need to be the same version for it
to work.

We had the same issue with Access 2000 Runtime on systems with Office 2003
installed. We finally gave up and "rolled or own" by Automating whatever
version of MS word that client had (using late binding). If Word is not
available it tells the user that they are big losers, and they will have to
do Copy and Paste into something on their computer that does know how to do
a spell check. While I have no direct knowledge of this working with Word
2007, I think I would have gotten a call by now if it was broken. :)
