Spell checker gets language confused

Word 2003, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

For no reason I can discern, my spell checker will infrequently
conclude that a particular word has French as its language, and flags
it as misspelled. When this happens, I go to Tools | Languages, and
see that the word's language is coming up French. I correct the
language and the spelling error disappears.

By "infrequently", I mean one or two words every twenty or thirty
documents.

My default language is always US English. I have no idea why the
occasional word gets Word confused.

I'm having the same/similar problem, PT, but mine wants me to use
Spanish. Also using Word 2003, but with XP. I posted a question
here several days ago, but didn't get any response so I'm thinking
maybe there isn't any way to fix this.
