spell checker

When I uninstalled an eval copy of Office my spell checker became disabled in
outlook express (the spelling button is grayed out).

I still have Works 8.5 installed and the spell checker still works in it.
And according to Microsoft spell checker in outlook should work with Works
2004 or later:

I'm sure it's just a registry setting somewhere. HELP!

P.S. Excuse me if I misspelled any words :)

When you installed the trial version, you must have corrupted the common
files for your original Word. Uninstall Word, reboot and reinstall it.
Outlook Express needs Word to have a spell checker. If you don't have Word,
you'll need a third party checker. Look up Spelling in OE Help.
PS This forum is for Office's Outlook only, not Windows' Outlook Express.

To clearify my question, my computer came installed with MS Works and an
evaluation copy of MS Office. I only uninstalled the eval copy of Office. I
still have Works and the spell checker still works in it.

I am using Outlook Express (and not Outlook). Sorry for the mix up but I
was directed by a Microsoft support tech to post my question here. I see that
this forum is for Office but hoped I could still find an answer.
