Spellcheck stuck at French?

XP Home w/ Outlook express 6. I loaded Office XP, which repeatedly broke my
PC so I uninstalled and then loaded the older Office 2000 product which
works fine. Howver, now when I spell check in OE, it uses French. I
reselect English, click apply and ok, but the French selection comes right
back!
Any help would be appreciated.

The affected text must be selected before changing the language, as the
language tag applies to each word, not the document as a whole.

You should also turn off language detection.
