Split tasks in MS Project

Hi,

Hope somebody can help me out (and I can explain what I want clearly):

We have a situation here where we have to do all test on 2 new equa
lines in our company. Line one has priority in starting up, but we hav
2 teams and we want team 1 who is cheking task 1 op CP1 to also do tas
1 on CP2.

I'll try to give an example

There are 2 computers (CP1 and CP2) and 2 working teams (Team 1 an
Team 2).

Team 1 starts Task1 on CP1 (eg 5 days)
Team 2 starts Task2 on CP2 (eg 10 days)
As soon as Team1/Task1 on CP1 is finished

Team 2 starts task2 on CP1 (eg 10 days) --> Task2 on CP2 is put o
hold
Team 1 starts task 3 on CP2 (eg 10 days)
As soon as Team2/Task2 on CP1 is finished

Team 1 starts Task 3 on CP1
Team 2 _resume_ with Task 2 on CP2 ermaining 5 days

So as you can see a certain task should be put on hold as long a
another hasn't finished, and then this task should be resumed.

Is something like this possible with MSP?

Thanks,

Jimm

Hi Jimmy D,

I'm not sure I follow 100%, but if I understand you correctly, yes.

Create the links to drive the sequences:
In CP1:
Task 1 is the predecessor to Task 2
Task 2 is the predecessor to Task 3.

Set the priorities of the tasks in CP1 higher than the tasks in CP2.
Assign Team 2 to both Task 2 in CP1 and CP2. Team 2 will be
overallocated during the second week when Task 2 in Cp1 overlaps
with Task 2 on Cp2.

Then use resource leveling with Priority, Standard set as the
leveling order. Allow the tasks to split. Task 2 in Cp2 will be
split after 5 days, Task 2 in Cp1 will be scheduled at the split.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
