splitted tables are very slow

I have a Access2007 database (100 Mb!!) with thousands of records. In
not-splittedd mode, it's working quite right with 3 users in a netwerk
(client-server). The response-time when updating a 'heavy' field is about 1
second. However when i'm splitting this database in a BE-FE this database is
working very much slower: about 5 seconds for the same field-updating. ???
