splitting an access database

Hi,
I have two computers on my home network linked through a router.
I have split my database and saved the backend part in a folder in My
Network Places. I have saved the front end to the Desktop of my computer and
also the front end to the desktop of the other computer. I can access the
database through my computer ok, but when trying to access it from the other
computer I get a message telling me that the path is not valid.

Is there a simple tutorial telling me how to do this in simple steps because
it is all new to me and I have gone wrong somewhere but don't know where.

Many Thanks in advance
Phil

On the "other" computer, use the Menu Tools / Database Utilities... / Link
Table Manager... and re-link the Tables to the Back-End of "your" computer.

I am not sure how you set up your router but if you don't use DNS (Domain
Name Server - I think some routers do have this and some don't), then you
need to know the IP address for "your" computer. In this case, you will
need to use (local) static IP address.

Because the path is not valid when I put a copy of the front end on the other
computer I can not open it to use Tools / Database Utilities... / Link Table
Manager

Normally, you should be able to open the database to the Database Containers
Windows regardless whether the path to the Linked Tables are right or wrong.

You might have set Start-up options that require data. Try holding the
Shift key down while you are opening the database. This should bypass the
Start-up options and present you with the Database Containers window (unless
you have previously disabled the bypass)
