Splitting the Resources' Work

This has to do with an overallocated resource. I thought I could split a
resource's work if a resource is overallocated with a task assignment. I
thought that if this task had more than one resource assigned, and one
resource is overallocated, that you could split the overallocated resources'
work without affecting the other resources assigned to the task. My
understanding is that this can be done in Resource Usage or Resource
Allocation view by selecting the Work cell where there is overallocation and
pressing Insert. It's supposed to delay the task out (e.g.) 1 day while
leaving the other resource assignments alone.

Only when I press Insert, nothing happens. I thought it was because Fixed
Duration was set, but I turned that off and it still didn't work. Does anyone
know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks -

It sounds as though you are trying to level. Try Tools/Level Resources.
Then to delay an individual's work, ensure that "Levelling can adjust
individual assignments on a task" is checked.

Also make sure that the levelling granularity is set to something
sensible (day-by-day or week-by-week generally).

Hi,

First, thanks. 14 years I've been using the software and didn't know about
the insert key trick!
So I can confirm it works.
Only, when there are several resources on a task, it does not work on TASK
level, only on ASSIGNMENT level, i.e. in the usage view on the line
representing the resource's work on the specific task.

Hi Dave,

Bummer. Both of these options are set as you suggest. Any other ideas??!!...
I'll keep looking, too.

Thanks, Jan...and yep, that's the view I'm in. I'm in the Resource Allocation
view and in the timescale I have the Work cell selected that I am trying to
adjust. Supposedly I can insert this time for this resource without affecting
the other resource assignments to the same task. So rather than split the
task, just split the one resource that is overallocated. I've seen it work,
so I know it does - as you now know, too! :) But I can't get it to work on
this one file I am working on. Of course. If you think of anything else, let
me know!

Thanks -

Wait - I think I figured it out. Silly oversight on my part. I had three work
cells I am trying to push out. I had the first one selected, and that's where
it wouldn't work. But it *does* seem to work if the 2nd or 3rd work cell is
selected. I'll have to think through this logic...any ideas? Anyway - thanks
for the help.
