Spot color Processing

Marcie

I am hoping for some expert help separating spot colors when I convert my
..pub file to a .pdf file. They don't separate cleanly.

I have two pantone colors 484 (red-text) and 135 (yellow-fillboxes). I am
printing on a coated white postcard. Basically my problem manifests like this:

My separations for red are great. All the red shows up on .pdf page as
black. My separation for yellow is not so great. The yellow separates as
black but the text (which was red) also shows up as white.

Can you give me any advice? I can include a copy of the file that I am
referencing.

My printing company does not us publisher, therefore, they are not able to
guide me.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Marcie Thomas

You've done your job better than some. What you are seeing is that Publisher
has knocked out the yellow fill behind the red text. This eliminates the
front color shifting darker due to the color behind it. In this case, the
red would probably look fine, yellow never hurt red to much, but imagine if
you had a green background; the red would end up brown on press.
Your options;
Keyword "Overprint" in Publishers help, it's pretty straight forward and
understandable.
Set the text in black, it will not knock-out the yellow. Inform your printer
verbally and in writing that the black is to print red. They should
understand the why and how of this.
Find a printer who will accept your native Publisher file.
Create a composite color pdf instead of separations. Let the printer do the
seps on their equipment.

I'd be happy to review the file
