Sorry for this very basic question:

what is the max capacity for data points (in cells, by row and column
of an excel spreadsheet?
any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well, until Excel 2007, there are 256 columns and 65536 rows. How many
of them you can use depends solely on how much memory you have in your
computer. Otherwise there is no limit. HTH Otto
