Spreadsheets have to be open twice to view

Everytime I double-click a spreadsheet to open it, Excel opens but there is a
gray background. From this point, I have to click open from within Excel,
choose my spreadsheet, and then open it from here. This happens for all of
my spreadsheets. Is there a global option in Excel that can correct this?

I've seen similar posts before, but could not drudge up one quickly.
seem to remember most of the solutions that worked involvin
unregistering and registering excel.

From Start Button, select run.

Type in the Open box: Excel /unregserver

Then repeat, typing: Excel /regserver

This makes excel reregister itself. I've done this myself with no il
effects.

I appreciate your response to my problem but it did not work. Anyone have
any other suggestions?

(did you have excel closed when you tried the /unregserver, /regserver stuff?)

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel (both instances) and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

And you're sure your workbook is not opening. If you click on Window, do you
see it on the list at the botton?

Or maybe it's opening hidden. If you click on Window, is Unhide enabled (not
greyed out)?

I really appreciate your help Dave. After I unchecked the box mentioned
below, my spreadsheets are opening just fine. Thanks again.
