SPSS compatible format

SCOTTS

I have been asked to collect raw data in an SPSS compatible format,
preferably a .SAV file otherwise a .CSV file.

I am only familiar with "normal" excel workbooks. Is .SAV an Access file
type? Can I save all the data in an excel worksheet and convert it to an
SPSS compatible format afterwards?

Thanks, Scott

You may want to ask this question in an Excel newsgroup. There are dozens of
them in multiple languages. This is newsgroup is devoted to Microsoft Access
databases. You are much more likely to find an answer in a group devoted to
your subject.

Don't know about .SAV, it's certainly not an extension used by Access, but
Access can export to .CSV, and Excel can save as .CSV, so if .CSV is an
acceptable format you could use either Access or Excel.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

In some operating/file systems, any file with an extension of ",SAV" is read
only. You can copy or rename it to a different extension to make it
read/write in its host application.

I would use ".CSV". The .SAV is an SPSS only file type. SPSS is very "robust"
in terms of file types it will import.
