SQL Express and Groove Manager/Relay

T

Thorsten Butz

I am not very familiar with SQL-Server, but I wonder why I cannot use
SQL 2005 Express Edition to support the Groove Server. I manage to use
SQL Enterprise with Groove.

From my point of view it seems that there is a little bug in the
setup-routine of Groove, I cannot connect to the database because I
cannot fill in "localhost\sqlexpress" during setup. If I do so it fails
to connect.

Thanks in advance,
Thorsten

There's a limitation of 4gb database size for SQL Server Express. Groove
Servers are 64b-based servers that may need more for storage.
Details on SQL Server Express are here -
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx
Groove Server requirements are here -
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/grooveserver/HA101945381033.aspx

The pricing between 32b and 64b servers are the same so you may want to
consider 64b based servers (for scalability).

There's a public Groove 2007 Server Workspace (details below) - you may want
to post your inquiry there as well.

Thanks for the information.
But I wonder why I cannot even go through the
groove-server-setup-wizard. That may be a "simple" problem, but it
should work. The limitation is not really important if you have only a
few users.

As per the Groove Manager requirements - the SQL Server specs are:
• Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition or Windows Server 2003
Enterprise Edition, with the latest Service Pack required
• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 2 (or later)

The SQL Server needs to be another server (hardware) and SQL Express
(localhost) residing on the same GMS box does not meet the requirements.
