SQL Not Connected

Marek Kalisz

BCM installed also SQL, I believe. An icon of SQL server shows in tray but
with a not: Not connected. When I'm opening SQL Service Manager I'm a
complete dummy: What to do, what to connect to, etc. Can't find any
reference or tips. I even bought today a thick book "Outlook 2003 Upside
Down" or something like this - no reference.
HELP, please!

Ignore that icon please.

The "Not connected" is a correct behavior by design, though it should be
better documented.

And yes I do know what it means, so you can rest assured that's correct. It
shows this way because Microsoft disables networking features of MSDE, which
is the embedded version of SQL Server that BCM relies on for storing its
data.

Thanks. But - if this icon is in fact dumb (no reason, right, no function
or no setting needed) is there some way to get rid of it? It's
irritating...

You can.

Just delete "Service Manager" from the Startup menu on your start menu.

It truly is not important and should get auto-hidden by XP anyway.
