Square's diagonal angle measurement

A

Amos Kariuki

If I drop a square (basic shapes) on to a new window and draw a
diagonal line from one vertex of the square to a midpoint along the
opposite side of the square, Visio states that the angle of the
diagonal line is 26.5651deg. Mathematically, seems like the angle
should be (+/-) 30deg.

Any ideas as to how Visio is getting this 26.5deg measurement?

Hi Amos,

ArcTan( 0.5 ) = 26.5651 deg. You're thinking of ArcSin( 0.5 ) = 30 deg, but
that is "opposite side over hypotenuse". Your triangle is "1 - 2 - SQRT(3)"
and the sides are 1 and 2, so to speak.

Of course--not sure how I could have possibly mixed that up.
Thanks for the correction Chris.
