STAND-ALONE MS-WORD FOR $25 ?

I have a 3 year old Compaq computer running Windows XP.
3 GB processor, 512 memory, 160 GB HD.

I'm writing a book about God and I need MS-WORD but
I don't need MS-OFFICE (which costs $300)

Microsoft sells a "stand alone" single CD disc copy of
MS-WORD. This vendor is selling it for $25 (new in
the box):
http://www.etech4sale.com/Microsoft_-_MS_Word_2003_-_Media/059-04544/partinfo-id-161427.html

If I buy this and simply load it into my CD drive, can I write my
book about God using on it?

Or is the bad news that it WON'T RUN unless you are
running the $300 copy of MS-OFFICE also ??

Is $25 for MS-WORD too good to be true, or is there
a catch...... ??

Thanks in advance, Writabook

Even for the superceded version of standalone Word, that's pretty cheap.
And did you notice that that's a Norwegian version?

Yikes! Are you saying it ONLY writes in Norwegian?
My assumption was an English version of WORD that
ALSO supports Norwegian? What's the scoop?
If cost is a concern, consider the free OpenOffice.

Na.... I have to upload the book to a publisher and it
MUST be written in MS-WORD only.

Well, it may be a legal MS produced CD, but without a licence, you won't
be
able to install or activate it. This looks to be the media that might be
purchased by an organization that gets volume licensing.

As always, deals that look too good.....

Yeah.... that's what someone on Alt.computer
told me... it has no license key so its useless.

I tried OpenOffice since they say it will save
in .doc format.... however I notice that when
you do so it wipes out any complicated
formatting.

So... I'm going to write the book in my
(free) Works-wordprocessor with no
fancy formatting since it will save the
book in a .doc file format. Then when
I'm all thru I'll activate the "free 60 day
trial" version of MS-WORD that came
with my computer and format the book
before I upload it to the publisher.
Whew....

Check on EBay using the keywords WORD and WORKS

I bought a Works CD a few months ago that had Word on it as the word
processor. I think I paid $20 for the CD. Word installed separately
from Works and has worked fine.
Apparently you were just lucky.
I've seen guys who could make up
a phoney MS registration number that
would work... actually saw him do it
to install a duplicate copy of Windows 98
on a computer but this computer is new
and my XP is already registered
with MS so I don't want to screw around
with bogus software unless I have to.
You can also buy Word as a standalone from Microsoft - the last time I
checked it was about $100...
That's a lot better than $299 for Office...
but this 3 year old computer I bought new
has a 60 day free trial Office package with Word 03
in it and I haven't activated it yet!
So I think I'll write the book in the free MSWorks
wordprocessor they included and when I get
through writing I'll activate the 60 day free
Word 03 and use it to format the book so I
can upload it to my publisher.
I'd really like to be writing in WORD but
I need the $100 to get my Saturn thru the
next car inspection... you know how that goes!
