Stange OLE Embedding problem

Greetings,

First, I realize Access does a horrible job natively with embedding pictures
in forms. I link to pictures where I can and I have never needed to look at a
third party program to do a better job with embedding, because I only have a
very limited place I need to use it.

But with that said:

I have a continuous form that contains a single picture in each record. On
that form, the picture is embedded in the record using OLE.

In Old Access 97 version, and using the Office tool packaged with 97,
Microsoft Photo Editor 3.0, here's how we embedded the picture:

On the form there's a button to open the picture directory in explorer.
With Photo Editor set to be the default program for jpegs, users could open
the picture to verify it was the right one (in Photo Editor). Then they would
copy and right click in the form field and Paste. Simple

Fast Forward to Access 2003/Office 2003. The picture manager bundled with
Office 2003 is called picture manage. If I try pasting using the same means
the paste is not available. The only way I can get it in is to right click on
the picture file name in Explorer and then paste is available. But sometime
it pastes the file name and NOT the picture itself

At first I think the problem is related to References. I check the
references the newer picture manager is not even available, even when I have
it set as default program for pictures. Maybe this has nothing to do with it
because I have been able to duplicate the same strangeness with the newer
Picture Manager and pasting from it into other applications.

The only sure way around it is to keep the older Photo Editor installed.
I'm not opposed to that, but I am still trying to figure out the problem

As you said, your only choice is to install the MS Photo Editor off of your
Office XP CD's.

But why? Why won't the newer Picture manager function correctly. My gut
reaction is that MS knows that OLE Embedding between their picture products
and Access stinks so much anyway that they are sort of de-railing the
function (An I paranoid or what?<g>)

And also, can you confirm this is a known problem? Any more read on it that
you know of it . . . .even if it's just an admission from MS?

Thanks for the response

A search of GoolgeGroups and the MS KB will yield several threads explaining
this issue in detail, including a few from MS PSS.
