Start all over but retain emails, folders, contacts, etc.

Hi-

I recently transfered my pst file over to a new computer (both Outlook 2003)
and now I believe I have some (major?) problems with the contacts folder and
locations. Even though everything seems fine on the outside and I can still
send emails fine, I get numerous errors telling me my address book cannot be
located and I just recently discovered all my mailing lists fail to link the
members to their contact files even though they are right there.
I guess my main question is, can I somehow wipe outlook clean, and then just
readd all the information (contacts, appointments, tasks, notes, emails,
folders, etc.) one-by-one?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Yes. Create a new PST and make it your default delivery location. Restart
Outlook. Outlook will then create new, empty default folders. You can then
drag-and-drop individual items one at a time from your old folders to the
new ones.

What's the exact text of the address book error message?

Distribution lists are known to be fragile. You can try using the Update
button, but I wouldn't count on it working.

Well, updating the contact list did not work. Here is the error I get when
I type in an name in the To field and then try to resolve it and click "Show
more names..." -
"The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions."
On my old computer it used to just display my entire contact list. I do
have my contacts showing fine though when I click the Contacts tab on the
bottom left. I also get an error (I can't remember it now) that only occurs
when I am using a high speed internet access connection (I have dialup here
at home). Thanks for your help-

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next. If the "Outlook Address Book" service is there, remove it.
Restart Outlook. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new directory or address
book>Next>Additional Address Books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and
click Next. Follow any remaining prompts (I can't tell you exactly what
they are because I don't wish to remove and readd my Outlook Address Book,
but it shouldn't be difficult to follow the prompts). Once the Outlook
Address Book is back in, close and restart Outlook. Finally, right-click
your Contacts folder, choose Properties, then click the Outlook Address Book
tab. Check the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" box. Click OK.

Thanks - that did it! (except the distribution list but I guess that might
be "normal"). I did that before but didn't exit outlook in between and I
guess that is the key to wipe the cache. Thanks again-
