start form at number other than 1

I want to start my numbering at 10,000. How do I do that and have each new
record increase by 1.

Create a temporary table with one field that has the value 9,999.
Create an append query to append that record to your desired table.
The next record will be 10,000.

If you are talking about the number that shows in the box at the lower left
of the screen, that will do no good. That is not a record number, but the
relative position of the record in the table. Unless you open as a Data
Entry form, or to a specific record, it will always be 1.

Record numbers in Access are totally meaningless. They only show the
position of the record within the current recordset. If you sort a
recordset, filter it, add records, or delete records, all the numbers change.
Do not depend on Record Numbers in Access for anything.

I'm sorry, I may have misunderstood your post. My response was to the common
question of how to set an AutoID to a specific number. I assumed that this
is what you meant by "start my numbering at 10,000".
