Hi all!
I have win98 and have installed Office xp with SP3
LOCALY on some stations on my network. Every time I logg
on as a different user, and open word it says "Prepairing
to install" and then an error pops up which says word
needs to close! If i close the error and then try to re-
start word it will work, could some one please help?

Thanks

You need to install Office logged in as Administrator.

Hi Emmett
Do these new users already have profiles on the PC? In the past I've found
in an office environment that sometimes the default network user profile
doesn't contain the files and folders Word needs to start up. The first time
you log in a copy of the default user profile is supposedly downloaded to the
PC.

If you then start Word it can't find the location folder for the normal.dot
and that's what seems to cause the error.

The second time you log in the folder structure is present and you don't get
the message again. It's almost as if the folder structure isn't written to
the hard drive until you log the user off the first time.

What happens if you log on a user that already has a profile on the PC? Do
they still get the error message?
