static in audio notes

Processor: Intel

I'm getting static when I playback audio notes. I'm using Notebook as a songwriting tool, so I have tried to set the audio notes to best quality: High, AIFF, mono, 8 bit, 32 khz in the Word preferences pane. I'm using the built in mic.
And how should I set the sound preferences in the Mac system so as not to conflict? Any help would be really appreciated.

Just make sure you are not running the system out of resources...

Reboot and ensure that Word is the only thing running. Then try again.

If that "fixes" it, then the problem is that the processor does not have
enough puff to keep up all the demands and feed the audio stream at the same
time. More memory may help (a lot!).

Cheers
