status bar is missing with Word 2000 as email editor

I've noticed that when I use Word 2000 (SP3) as my Outlook e-mail
editor, the status bar is missing. When I go into Tools/Options/View,
I can see that "Status Bar" line item is grayed out in the Show
section.

If I open Word normally, the Status Bar is fine. If I change the
status bar item off in Word proper, it then shows that it is off in
Word as email editor but is still geyed out.

I also have Proofing Tools installed if this matters.

Any help is appreciated. I tried everything here,
http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_Q291484.aspx to no avail first.

Also, I have "Background Repagination" ticked.
