Std. Ed. Needs More

The standard edition should include home design/remodeling templates. The
professional version is overkill for the casual user.

I have used Visio since version 1 with Shapeware. For years, Visio Home was
my favorite program. I had a hard time keeping all those shapes in place
through the upgrades, and some years back I finally gave up, and consequently
Visio has been idle for a long time here at our house.

I was disappointed when I started working on remodeling plans to find that I
could not do it with Visio Std. My days of reverse engineering databases, and
discovering network layouts are thankfully long gone. Buying all the power of
the Pro version sure seems like a waste for somebody just trying to give
their 12 year old his own bathroom. <g>

Or am I missing something? Is there a way to add these features to the
standard version?

Thanks, -Jack

I have used Visio since day 1. The best version for me was "Visio Home" --
it was the perfect tool for the home owner interested in remodeling,
building, landscape, etc.

Even in the Standard Edition, Find Shapes will help you find the shapes you
need for home layout/remodel. The only catch is you need an internet
connection.

No--you can't just download all the Visio Pro templates and stencils. But
you can search for *all* the Visio Pro shapes via Find Shapes and you
already have some basic measured drawing templates in Visio Standard
(probably under Office layout or something like that).

So the "Building, space, and floor plans" ARE actually availalbe in Visio
Standard, one just has to download them?

Thanks,

Let me rephrase my original suggestion. Visio Standard should include the
Home Plan template to include the Appliances, Bath and Kitchen, Cabinets,
Electrical/Telecom, Furniture, Garden Accessories, and Walls stencils.

These templates would re-incarnete Visio Home, which is the product I need.
