STDEVP Function - help

Can anyone tell me when using the STDEVP function in excel
to obtain standard deviations, is the resulting answer 1
sigma standard deviation or 2 sigma standard deviation?
Cannot find this information anywhere in the help files.

STDEVP returns the *population* standard deviation, which would be 1 sigma if
sigma should be the population statistic rather than the sample statistic (which
is given by STDEV).

Newsgroup responses aren't the best place to learn the difference between
population and sample standard deviations. A good introductory statistics or
econometrics course would be better.
