still have drop-down confusion

I have looked all over and even tried the contextures website. I am using
excel 2003 and would like to create a drop-down box on a time sheet that
everyone will save on their local machines. I would like to link our client
database to the drop-down and store that file on our server. This file will
change every week. I am not fussy on what i save the database as. It will
only contain a client number and name. Is this possible? I have seen that
you can link to another spreadsheet that is open but most likely the file
will be closed and just in a specific folder on the server. Please help.

You could use Data>Import External Data>New Database Query
to import the data to the master copy
Set it to update on open
Create a dynamic named range from the imported data
There are instructions here:
http://www.contextures.com/xlNames01.html
Use the dynamic named range as the source for the data validation
