Yes, I saw that line but a file that does not exist opening nevertheless
does not compute so I discounted it. Also, XLSTART and the Alternate
startup folder to separate things so I thought it was worth a shot.
On re-reading this I wonder if perhaps the OP really just wanted Excel to
open with no empty workbook? If so, Brenda, then change your Excel shortcut
to "Excel.exe /e".
