stop documents minimizing

when i open any office document it automatically minimizes. Is there anyway
of stopping this from happening

What version of Word are you using?

What steps are you using to open the documents?

If you're opening them from a shortcut does setting the property of the shortcut to use a 'maximized' window make a difference?
