Stop individual projects adding resources to Resource Pool

Annemarie

Hi

I have set up a shared resource pool. the problem is that when people are
allocating resources to their individual projects they often mistype or make
up resource names when searching for resources. When they save their project
these invalid resources are added to the resource pool. How can I set up the
resource pool or individual projects so that resources can only be added or
amended in the resource pool not via individual projects. Of course I still
need to be able to update the resource pool with the allocations/dates/work
from the individual projects - just restrict the selection to only those
resources in the resource pool.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Dear Rod

thank your for your response. I hope it is that easy. I just wonder what
it means to not automatically add new tasks?

Does this mean - that if I add a new task to my project timeline I cannot
add a resource to it?

thanks

To add a little, Annmarie, the setting means that if you mis-type a resource
name, Project will ask you if you want to add this "new" resource - it can
be used as a cue for mis-typing. it won't prevent it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Is there any other way to stop individual projects adding resources to a
resource pool? Can you stop new resource creation in a Project File with VBA?

Any ideas would be really apprecaited

Dan,

There is not a software setting to prevent this. The best way is to
inform all who open/touch the file to not do that. If they persist,
then don't allow them to open the files.

There is kind of a setting in Tools > Options > General, at the bottom:

Automatically add new resources to the pool. That should be unchecked.

Unfortunately, all that does is show a warning message which then can be
easily overriden - but it's a start.

Basically, it's a training issue.
