Stop Sending Mail "On Behalf of" Myself

B

Brent N.

I'm using Outlook 2002 in my home office (obviously without Exchange
Server), so why can't I prevent my own mail from being sent "on behalf
of" myself?

TIA.

Environment is Windows XP Home SP2 with Office XP SP3 and DSL with
multiple POP3 accounts.

You shouldn't use the From field if you are not using Exchange and the Send
On Behalf Of or Send As features. You should use the Accounts button on the
toolbar to switch between mail accounts. It's not automatic but that is the
way it should be done.

Hello Jocelyn,
What is really so bad about using the "From" line if I'm not using Exchange.
It does no harm and is completely functional. I understand what it's
intended purpose is, but maybe it can be used for another reason.

It appears most people are having issue with "on behalf of" when they don't
want it.

My original response to Sarah was to help her remember to switch the "From"
account information. The way Outlook is set up, by default, has no obvious
incentive to check the "From" information. Personally, I have a small
business, and I inadvertently sent several e-mails to my clients using the
wrong sender account. OK, so I'm a little forgetful...having the "From" line
(even without Exchange) reminds me to set my "From" account.
Your feedback is welcome.

If it works for you, great...no reason for you to stop using it, and if it
works for others that's fine too. But I see a lot of posts with people
getting the "On Behalf Of" because they're using the From field to choose an
account when they really don't need to do that. That's why I advise that
non-Exchange users, or those who are not delegates for someone else, not use
the From field to choose an account.
