Straight to send (italics) but delay sending 10 mins?

Graeme

Can't seem to find anywhere on Outlook Professional 2000 how I can change
configuration to default for ALL messages so that they're sent to Outbox in
italics ready to go. Currently, I can set send/receive for 10 minute slots
via Tools-Options-Mail Delivery so that any messages in italics in Outbox are
cleared when the 10 mins is up, but when I send messages to Outbox, they
don't go to itals and I have to open them in the Outbox and Send again before
they do go to italics. I understand I can set each individual message to go
out after a particular time but would like to set a default for ALL messages
to do this. Any help appreciated

Not enough information to respond.
State your mail support mode, mail account type, connection type,
automatic polling settings, whether you have "Send immediately when
connected" selected and whether you have email scanning enabled.

You can do this by setting up a rule that runs after messages are sent that
delays the message by 10 minutes.

Thanks Jeff, this definitely looks like the one I need.

But... Having a difficulty applying the rule. Any suggestions?

In New Rule, I've:
- applied to messages sent

- then applied to people in distribution list (highlighted all addresses in
my address book)

- then applied deferred by xyz mins (doing 10 mins in the description part)

- then skipped exceptions, turned on the new rule, and clicked finish....

I then get to "Apply rules in the following order" window with the new rule
ticked and the Auto Generated Norton Antispam Rule unticked (this Norton rule
is the only other rule I have). But when I click OK, I get a box saying "A
value in the Rule Description box has not been set" even though one of the
words underlined in the descriptions part are in blue. I click on the
underlined words to make sure they're okay and they are...

Apologies for continued question thread but I'm nearly there... so close and
yet...

Also, when I set this rule, will it apply to all address contacts I add in
the future or will I have to update the distribution list in the rule
periodically to make sure they're also included?

Sorry this is so long - it always seems to be so much more complicated
explaining these things than it actually is...

If you want to have the delay apply to all mail you send, there's no need
to specify the addresses - just skip the conditions screen in the rules
wizard, and you'll be asked if you want this to apply to all mail. I don't
know if there is something different about Outlook 2000, though I know it
works with Outlook 2002.

All so close now, Jeff... still having this final problem at the end and
wondering if there's a problem specific to Outlook 2000.

Everything seems to set fine until the very final screen, but when I click
OK, I still get this message saying "A value in the rule description box has
not been set. To set a value, click underlined words at the bottom of the
Rules Wizard"... In the description box there are the words "apply this rule
after I send the message. Defer delivery by 10 minutes" - the word "10" is
indeed underlined but now in black, suggesting it's absolutely fine and ready
to go. Whatever I try and change the "10" to I still get the same
prompt....?!?

Not sure if you've ever got that final screen and if there's a way round it,
or if it's just a kink in Outlook 2000 which I'm going to have to take up
with Microsoft...?

Many thanks for your patience...

Hi Jeff, thanks for your help. There were some problems with my computer and
I had to reinstall system and applications from media kit - a pain but all
working well now and no problems with setting up and implementing the "defer
by 10 mins" message rule as per your advice.

One final thing... how can I make an exception to my "defer sending by 10
mins" rule so that sending manually via "send" or "send/receive" commands
overrides and sends whether 10 mins have elapsed or not? I used to have this
set up to work when I had Outlook 2000 set up on my old computer but can't
work it out now.

I don't think there is any way to have rules based on how you initiated a
send/receive.
