Strange behavior with inserted pictures

CR Optiker

I just installed PowerPointXP into a Dell notebook system running
Windows2000Pro. I chose to install only PowerPoint without any other MS
Office components, and in fact, installed PowerPoint as bare bones as
possible with as few added components as possible.

I'm experiencing some very strange behavior with regard to inserting
pictures, which may be the result of failing to install some component that
was necessary - or may be due to something else.

The most serious is that I can't seem to copy/paste pictures from one slide
to another or from one open PPT file to another without drastically messing
up other, already inserted pictures. The nature of the "mess" is that other
pictures already present change size and aspect ratio when the copied
picture is pasted. In fact, in this case, the already inserted pictures
have been cropped and resized, and when the new one is pasted, the others
seem to not revert to uncropped, but do seem to revert to the uncropped
size but with the cropped content. If I perform an "undo" all goes back as
it should - this is relevant in the second issue.

The second thing that's happening is that when I insert a new picture from
a file, a similar thing is happening with the previously inserted, croped
and resized pictures resizing (as above) as well as the newly inserted one
being mis-sized. But, if I then do an "undo" the erroneously resized
previous pictures disappear back to their correct size, aspect ratio,
placement, and the newly inserted picture, rather than undoing
(disappearing) now appears properly inserted and sized.

My experience with and reason for using PowerPoint for much of my work in
place of MS Word which would ordinarily be the app of chioice, is that
PowerPoint was able to handle graphics whereas the problems I had with MS
Word became intolerable. If my experience here is an indication that MS has
"improved" PowerPoint to be more like MS Word, I'll be either using an
older version, or looking at alternatives.

I'd be very interested in any comments on this behavior.

Thanks!

Go to Tools/Autocorrect and turn off the autolayout options. There are three
listed under "format as you type."

Same fix as above.

To quote Ms. Echo:
Tools/Autocorrect. Turn off the three autolayout options under the
"autoformat as you type" section.
