Strange black lines on left side of email

I have 1 person in my office that when they send me an email, the email
almost always has black lines on the left side that apear to expand each time
I hit enter.

What in the world is this?

OK - I figured out that these lines are actually a text box. What I don't
know is how it is getting there. I checked the users signature, but there
does't appear to be anything "extra" in it that would cause this. Any
thoughts?
