Strange cell behaviour

Hi all,
There's a very strange problem i'm currently having when entering
figures into any cell in any workbook.

For instance, when i enter '1', the figure 0.01 is displayed, 10 = 0.1
and so on.
I've tried cell formatting but to now joy.

Any ideas?

Alternatively, is there a way i can reset all excel default settings
without having to re-install?

Your help would be gratefully received.

go to ...........
tools
options
edit
and uncheck fixed decimal places

 

[Cutter]

Go to Tools > Options > Edit tab

Remove the check mark beside "Fixed decimal"
