Strange Formatting problem in Navigation Pane

When the navigation pane is displaying email folders it randomly changes to
a larger font. However when it changes it doesn't allow more space for the
folder names so long ones get truncated. It never changes back to the
smaller correct font size by itself - it is necessary to close and re-open
Outlook to do that.

In all other respects Outlook 2003 is working perfectly.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
