Strange formatting

I have a word document in Office 2000. There are gaps between lines of
text. When I hilight a line it is deeper than other lines. Others only
highlight the text. This has an area under it.

Any help on changing this format please.

It sounds like either formatted space between paragraphs or line
spacing. Take a look under Format/Paragraph and check the Spacing
section.

If the space has been added Before/After the paragraphs then while it
may appear strange this is actually the preferred method for adding
space between paragraphs instead of using empty paragraph marks. :)

No it is more complicated than this. If I highlight the text, copy to
notepad and back it works.
On this webpage copy the recipie name and brief description. format the
name to the same font size. It will not close up

Thank you for the example. :) It is paragraph spacing. All you need
to do is set the Space Before and After for each paragraph to 0 or use
the option in the Format/Paragraphs dialog box, "Don't add space
between paragraphs of the same style" which is what the Auto setting
in Before and After is doing.
